This Saturday, August 21st is the 2nd annual Trilogy Trolley Crawl in Historic Roswell. If you missed this event last year, it was extremely successful. This event offers a limited number of tickets and last years event was sold out. The ticket price of $40 covers admission into all three of Roswell’s famed historic homes; Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall and Smith Plantation. Ticket price also includes one drink ticket and three mini-sampler plate food tickets. Six trolleys will transport guests from home to home. Parking is available at each site with extra parking at the First Baptist Church on Mimosa. The event will run from 7-11:30 p.m.

The following is the themed menu for each home. Guests can begin their tours at any of the three homes.
• Barrington Hall will be transformed into the Vegas strip with guests being able to gamble at the casino, listen to the band Brookwood Split and dine on a Chicken Caesar salad and a slice of Wedding Chapel Cake. The beverage at Barrington Hall is the “Rat Pac”.
• Bulloch Hall’s theme is Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry. Enjoy a Lynchburg Lemonade while enjoying lots of two-stepping and fun from the sounds of the Jamie Pelfrey Band. And don’t forget your BBQ Pork Slider with Tennessee slaw and a mini Moon Pie.
• Smith Plantation will transform into the streets of New York City complete with Roswell’s version of Studio 54. Tunes will be provided by DJ Steve the Extreme. A mini Pastrami on Rye with chips and a NYC Black and White cookie (my fave) and a cosmopolitan tops this experience.

Food and drinks are catered by Roswell’s Talk of the Town. Get your tickets quick, before they sell out. To purchase tickets and for more information on this event, visit www.southerntrilogy.com. See you there!

• A refrigerator with a freezer on top uses 10% to 25% less energy than one with a side-by-side or bottom-mounted freezer
• Plug appliances and electronics into a power strip rather than an outlet. Devices plugged directly into the wall leak up to 15 watts of electricity even if they’re shut off.
• Hand-washing dishes might seem better for Mother Earth than using the dishwasher, but it’s actually more wasteful. You’ll use up to 35% less water by filling up the dishwasher with dishes that aren’t pre-rinsed instead of washing by hand. You can also conserve energy by skipping the dry cycle – just open the dishwasher’s door when the cycle is done to air dry.
• Invest in a tankless water heater that will heat water instantly on an as-needed basis, instead of one that must constantly keep your water warm. They can be expensive – prices range from just under $200 to more than $1,000-but it will help reduce energy costs in the long run and reduce water loss. Don’t want to buy one? Be sure to insulate your pipes for a good reduction in heat loss.

Known for its street food, which is basically a Latin menu, Inc is taking flight in our small quaint town. The décor will grab you right when you walk in. Graffiti with the names of Latin American cities misspelled all over the walls, lots of bright colors and a really hip vibe. The kitchen operates out of a replica of a street cart, or otherwise known to big city dwellers as roach coaches. I digress….

I have to say that the menu had quite a bit to offer. We started with Guacamole Tostadas which we all shared. Lovely, creamy guac with just enough spice to get your taste buds revved up. Most of our entrees were along the taco side of the menu. Seriously, the Crispy Shrimp tacos were out of this world. My plate was overflowing with 3 tacos and there was no way that I could finish. So many choices, I know I’ll have to go back and sample something else off the menu. The Puerto Rican style fish stew just might be my next adventure from Inc.

Reservations aren’t necessary, but to check on hours of operation call 770- 998-3114.

If you ever want to venture outside the Roswell city limits, why not take a guided tour of the Fabulous Fox in downtown Atlanta? Yesterday, my BFF and I went on a guided tour of the theater and had a wonderful time. The tour was led by an Atlanta Preservation Center volunteer and he gave us all the details of the rough beginnings of the now famous theater.

Originally the theater was planned to be the headquarters of a Shriners organization, the $2.75 million project was completed only with funding and a 21 year lease by movie mogul William Fox. The theatre opened on December 25, 1929, just two months after the stock market crash. Soon after, the Fox Theatre declared bankruptcy. Floundering financially during the 1930’s and both Fox and the Shriners lost their financial interests.

Contrary to popular belief, the Fox theatre is not where the movie Gone With the Wind premiered. The movie most associated with Atlanta, premiered just down the street at the Loew’s Grand Theatre, which has since been torn down. It wasn’t until the 1940’s that the Fox was back on it’s feet with strong management and financial backing. The Egyptian Ballroom became Atlanta’s most popular public dance halls and hosted all the famous big bands of the era.

In 1974, Southern Bell approached the owners of the theatre wanting to purchase it to build their new headquarters. There was a massive public outcry and fortunately, the Fox theatre was saved from demolition. The U.S. Department of the Interior subsequently named the Fox a National historic landmark on May 26, 1976. The theatre is now eligible for federal grants to help pay for restoration projects and becomes harder to destroy using federal funds.

This townhouse community was built by Pulte in 2001. This 2 story unit has 3 bedrooms, 2 and half baths and has over 1,600 square feet and a 1 car garage. All it really needs is a good cleaning to be move in ready. There’s even a side by side refrigerator that conveys with the property.

If you’ve never been in this community, you’ll be struck by how well maintained the yards and common areas are. The community has its own swimming pool and dog walk. This unit in particular backs up to woods. And as an extra bonus, you’re only minutes to GA400 and Hwy. 9.

The current asking price is $170,000 and the monthly HOA is $140/month.

But Money Magazine has conducted its annual search for the best places to live in America. This year, they focused on the nation’s small cities with population of $50,000 to $300,000. Their search criteria included the optimal in job opportunities, fiscal strength, schools, low crime rates, good health care, interesting activities/recreation all factors that help make a town a great place for raising a family.

Needless to say, Historic Roswell was ranked #76 and was the ONLY city in Georgia ranked in the top 100. Here’s what Money Magazine had to say about our great town:
‘Home to several plantation houses from the Civil War era, historically rich Roswell is committed to a family-friendly environment. It has some of the best public schools in the state, the lowest crime rate in the region, and a myriad of outdoor activities, making it easy to understand why families flock to this affluent Atlanta suburb. Residents love their many public events, including the monthly Alive after Five summer festival, with plenty of food, shopping, and live music.’

No surprise huh?

• Odd addresses may water between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
• Watering landscape between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. will be prohibited.
• The City of Roswell Wasting Water Ordinance is still in effect. Some examples of wasting water include, watering during rain storms (irrigation systems going on in rain), water from your lawn going into the street or running down the curb line into a storm drain. (Logical, right?)

The passage of H.R. 5623, the Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act, applies the homebuyer tax credit closing deadline extension only to homebuyers who have ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010, but could not close before June 30. The legislation is designed to create a seamless extension of the new closing deadline for eligible transactions to September 30. There will be no gap between June 30 and the date the president signs the bill into law.

There are nearly 180,000 home buyers across the Nation who this extension effects. For more information on the extension, visit www.realtor.org/government_affairs.
